About the Talk:
Following the IMT-2030 framework by ITU-R, two major technologies of integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) and intelligent metasurfaces (IM) — i.e., RIS, holographic MIMO (H-MIMO) — herald a new era of 6G connectivity by transcending conventional communication networks to highly energy efficient and ultra-high data rates for smart radio environment, with exploration of frequency bands such as cmWave and sub-terahertz, and multiple use cases for 6G such as simultaneous imaging, mapping and localization, smart healthcare, etc. Furthermore, considering recent 3GPP Rels. 19 and 20, ISAC will play a vital role in 6G wireless standards, while RIS, H-MIMO, electromagnetic signal and information theory (ESIT) are some of the technologies expected in future 3GPP Rel. 20+. This talk will present a comprehensive overview of emerging ISAC and IM (particularly RIS, H-MIMO, refractive surfaces) based 6G and beyond wireless communications including vision, standardization, fundamentals, challenges, use cases, and synergies between ISAC and IM technologies, and new opportunities. In terms of emerging designs, the talk will focus on case studies such as RF chain and quantization optimization, ESIT capabilities, index modulation, and IM-aided ISAC for non-terrestrial networks (NTN), and related applications.
About the Speaker:
Prof. Aryan Kaushik is CEO at OUF Innovative, UK (since 2026), CIO at RakFort, Ireland, and Adjunct Professor at IIITD, India (since 2025). He has previously held positions as Associate Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK (2024–25), Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) at the University of Sussex, UK (2021–24), and Research Fellow at UCL, UK (2020–21), with earlier associations at the University of Edinburgh, UK (2015–19) and HKUST, HK (2014–15). He has held Visiting Professor/Researcher appointments at the University of Bologna, Italy (2024) and Imperial College London, UK (2019–20).
A World’s Top 2% Scientist (Stanford/Elsevier), Prof. Kaushik serves as Core Member of the IEEE P1955 Standard on 6G-Empowering Robotics, Chair of IEEE ComSoc TWG on ESIT and SIG on AITNTN, Vice Chair of one6G WG3, and Founding Member of IEEE ComSoc SIG on FAS. He is an editor of leading journals including IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (Exemplary Editor 2025), IEEE COMST, and IEEE COMML (Exemplary Editor 2025, 2024 and 2023), and has edited 5 books by Elsevier and Wiley. He has been an invited/keynote and tutorial speaker at 140+ academic and industry events globally, including IEEE ICC 2024–26 and IEEE GLOBECOM 2023–26.
